If this is your child’s first haircut, we hope that you will prepare them before arrival at the salon. Kids can get a little antsy when exposed to the sounds and smells of a salon. Doing some simple prep work and role-playing prior to the appointment can help ease anxiety.
Kids can be challenging in the stylist’s chair because they want to move around. Coming to the appointment with snacks and other forms of entertainment is a wise decision for all involved. And letting your child know what to expect can help a lot.
Another thing to consider is making sure they arrive with hair already detangled. Sometimes brushing through tangled hair sets kids off. If it makes them cry, they might become embarrassed, and then they are less likely to cooperate with the stylist. We always suggest detangling at home with a specialized brush to make it less painful.
Come with an idea of the hairstyle you are hoping for. Make sure that the style is also agreeable to your child. We understand that, as parents, you want your children to look a certain way, but you also have to allow them the freedom to be themselves.
