Advice on Kids’ Hair

Kids’ hair is different than that of their adult counterparts. This means it requires some specific treatments and focus to ensure that it is healthy. Choosing the right products is essential.

We suggest using products that are kid friendly. That means choosing shampoos and conditioners that have been formulated for children.

And since we want their hair to stay beautifully healthy from the beginning we also recommend that you avoid products with sulfates, synthetic fragrances, and parabens. These chemicals have been proven to initiate irritation and dryness.

Washing your child’s hair everyday may sound like a good idea but the truth is, they only need to wash their hair 2-3 times a week. Of course, every child is different, but unless there’s a serious issue, this should suffice.

A good rule of thumb is that dry hair should be washed less frequently whereas oily hair should be more frequently cleansed. However, don’t make the mistake of creating oily hair by over washing.

Detangling your child’s hair is probably the least fun aspect of working with their hair. We suggest doing so before you bring him or her to a hair appointment. Detangling with a specialized product is fine and doing so when it is wet is best.
