1. Steer Clear of Alcohol and Tobacco

PDO Threads Pottstown, PASmoking and drinking must be avoided for a week before and after the procedure as they can dehydrate the skin and affect the efficacy of the anesthesia.

These substances can also interfere with the body’s healing process, flush out essential nutrients, increase blood pressure, and make you susceptible to complications.

2. Avoid Putting Pressure on Your Face

PDO threads are delicate and can dislodge or break if you put too much pressure on the area. That’s why you’re asked to avoid rubbing your face vigorously when washing it during the first week post-op. You should also postpone facial massages for 2 weeks and sleep on your back with your head propped on a pillow for 3 to 5 days.

3. Stop Blood Thinning Medications

Aspirin, ibuprofen, and certain supplements like omega-3 fish oils can disrupt blood clotting and increase your risk for excessive bleeding and bruising. That’s why it’s important not to take them at least 2 weeks before the procedure. Of course, you may have to consult your physician before discontinuing them.

4. Be Careful of Your Facial Movements

You may be able to return to work the same day, but you’ll need to give your facial expressions a break to allow the threads to stay in place. Avoid smiling too widely, big yawns, and puckering your lips.

You’ll also need to stick to a soft food diet to avoid too much chewing for a couple of days afterward. You’re also advised to put a hold on any dental appointments for a month. (It requires you to open your mouth wide which can ruin the results.)

5. No Strenuous Exercises For a Week

High-intensity exercises like heavy lifting and visits to the sauna can increase the blood flow to your face. Avoid them a week before and after the procedure. Stick to walking at a moderate pace (if required) until your treatment area heals to lower your risk of swelling, bruising, and other complications.

6. Pain Meds May Be Required

Strong pain medications are rarely needed, and many patients can keep a check on pain and bruising by applying ice or cold compress on the area. But you can also use Tylenol or arnica ingestibles or gels (under advice from a practitioner) to lessen your discomfort. This should resolve within two weeks, but if it doesn’t, and you have complications, follow up with a doctor ASAP. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

7. Minimize the Risk of Complications With a Trained Specialist

PDO threads may be a minimally invasive procedure, but it still uses thin needles to insert the biocompatible threads and create controlled wounds that lift the skin. Therefore, you need to get it from a licensed professional who’s trained to administer local anesthesia.
