Balayage Need to Knows
As we said previously, balayage isn't a new technique, though it has certainly gained a lot of ground in recent years. In fact, it was created in the 1970s by French colorists who decided that their freehand highlighting technique offered clients a more natural look.
Balayage is meant to provide people with a sun-kissed appearance. And, since it doesn't require the foil and caps utilized in traditional highlighting techniques, it becomes a low maintenance way to add color. This is because no significant lines are left in the coloring process since the whole strand is not colored.
People who are seeking to utilize a balayage highlighting technique will find that they are most benefitted if they go into it with natural hair. Colored hair is not a good recipient. But, if you are set on switching to balayage, our experts can help you plan the appropriate means of achieving that desired goal.
Balayage works with all colors, not just blonde. Though most people opt for that natural sun-lightened look, more and more people are trying out “reverse†balayage which adds darker colors instead.
While balayage is considered low maintenance because you won't have to frequently return to the salon for touch ups as it grows out, you will still need to take care of your hair. We suggest using a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner and swapping out your conditioning process for a hair mask once or twice a week.
Also, because balayage doesn't cover the full extent of the hair strand with color, the length of your hair won't matter. Balayage can be applied to short and long hair. However, we do suggest that it works best on haircuts where the ribbons of color will be noticeable.
Determining if balayage is right for you is not something we can tell you. But it is certainly something you can discuss with our stylists. We offer consultations for just that reason and welcome all your questions.
Balayage haircolor technique isn't that complicated, but it does take a professional that you trust since all color placement is based on freehand artistry.
