Guide to Hair Styling Tools
Unfortunately, most of us don't have the option of getting a weekly blowout, but achieving salon-worthy locks at home can be done with the right hair styling tools. Whether you are in the market for a hair dryer that dramatically reduces drying time, a multipurpose curling iron, or a volumizer, there are hair tools out there that will seriously up your game.
Shampoo Comb - This is a great comb to use after you shower. When your hair is wet, it gets easily tangled into knots and is more vulnerable to breakage. The shampoo comb is great for releasing knots and reducing breakage.
Round Brush - When using a blow dryer, this brush is a must-have. Fine-toothed combs won't provide the volume you're looking for, and using your fingers while blow drying can get very uncomfortable thanks to the heat. Small-size round brushes create tighter curls, while brushes with larger barrels help to straighten hair and create subtle waves.
Curl iron - Curl irons can be your best friend, whether you are looking for small, tight curls or big curls. Some heating plates on curl irons, like those made from ceramic or tourmaline, offer greater protection for your hair strands than simple metal versions. One disadvantage is that curl irons have a clip in the wand that makes indentation marks in every strand.
Curl wand - Heating is typically stronger in a curl wand compared to a curl iron, so curls done with the wand stay all day and night. The curling barrel is tapered, making the curls tighter and smaller at the end of the hair strands. Unlike the iron, there is no clip to hold the hair in place, so the wand won't leave indentations in your curls.
Styler - Whether you like your hair sleek and straight curly, a styler features contoured heat resistant floating plates that glide through your hair for quick, frizz-free styling and enhanced salon shine.
Teasing brush - Until you use it, you may have never known you need it! It will come in handy for kinder-to-hair backcombing that gives instant volume and brushes out easily, to smoothing ponytails and updos. Use the thin pointed end of the brush to section off your hair. It's much easier and neater than using your fingers.
