Tips for Your Hair Type and Texture
Since you are looking for the top hair salon, and you have certainly found it in Lords & Ladies, our experts would like to provide you with some tips for your hair type and texture. Of course, knowing the difference between type and texture is key.
Your hair type will generally fall into one of four categories, though there are some people who end up with a mixture of several different types. The four main hair types are:
- Straight- Straight hair might have a tendency to be greasy and shiny.
- Wavy- Wavy hair is usually thicker than straight hair.
- Curly- Naturally curly hair will usually go straight when wet but curls back up when it dries.
- Kinky- Curls in this hair are very tight and usually well-defined. And, people with this hair type will notice a coarser texture than the other categories.
Along with these four hair types, each has its own 3 subcategories. But we aren't going to get that in-depth here. Instead, we want you to also understand your hair's texture. Texture is determined by the circumference of the hair shaft or the thickness of each individual strand. There are three typical hair textures:
- Fine- Fine hair is thin and fragile and gets greasy and oily very quickly. Products weight it down and cause more breakage than with other hair textures.
- Medium- Most women have medium hair. Medium textured hair holds styles better and has more volume than thin hair, and it's less prone to breakage.
- Thick or Coarse- Coarse hair consists of three layers making it look fuller than the other two textures. It's less prone to breaking and holds products and heat better than other textures.
Now that you can determine which hair type and texture best describes your hair, here are a couple of tips:
- Straight Hair- Keep it clean to deter greasiness. Use volumizing shampoos. Flip upside down to blow dry. Blunt haircuts will make it look thicker.
- Wavy Hair- Add moisture and volume while controlling frizz, use products with these specs. Styling mousse can help. Layered cuts will contribute to volume.
- Curly Hair- Use moisturizing shampoos and conditioners. Add light mousse or hair oil to embrace your curls. Use a wet brush to detangle and blow dry with a diffuser. Remember that the shorter your haircut the curlier your hair will be.
- Kinky Hair- Use a heavy moisturizing shampoo and conditioner and add a moisturizing hair mask. Towel dry as soon as you get out of shower and let it air dry. Get regular haircuts to keep ends healthy.
